State media say North Korean leaders are overseeing a new missile test.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has overseen the launch of two new air defense missiles, with state media announcing that the tests showed the weapons had “excellent combat capability.”
North Korea’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said Saturday’s tests showed the missiles had “quick response” to aerial targets such as drones and cruise missiles.
The report did not describe the new missiles inM any detail, only that their “operation and reaction mode are based on unique and special technology.”
It also did not say where the test was conducted.
The launches also come as South Korea and the United States continue their annual joint military exercises and as the South Korean military announced that it had fired warning shots at several North Korean soldiers who briefly crossed their heavily militarized border on Tuesday.
The United Nations Command in South Korea put the number of North Korean soldiers who crossed the border at 30, according to Yonhap News Agency.
Meanwhile, North Korean state media quoted army Lieutenant General Ko Jong-chol as saying that the incident was a “premeditated and deliberate provocation.”
“This is a very serious provocation that will inevitably push the situation in the southern border area, where large numbers of forces are deployed in confrontation with each other, into an uncontrolled phase,” Ko said.
Earlier this month, Kim denounced joint US-South Korean military exercises as "the most hostile and confrontational" for his country, vowing to accelerate nuclear preparations.
South Korea's new leader, Lee, has sought warmer relations with the nuclear-armed neighbor, promising to build "military trust," but Pyongyang has said it has no interest in improving ties with Seoul.
