Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ordered the adoption of Japanese technology for Punjab's sewage and waste treatment.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that modern Japanese technology and methods will be used for sewage and waste management in Punjab.
During her official visit to Japan, the Chief Minister visited the country’s largest wastewater treatment facilities in Asahi, Yokohama City, Kanagawa, Washimco and Yodogawa, a handout issued here on Monday said.
She was given a comprehensive briefing on the garbage collection, wastewater treatment and waste disposal systems in Japan. Officials told her that Yokohama, Japan’s second largest city, treats 1.5 million liters of wastewater daily through its solid waste and wastewater treatment plant.
The Chief Minister was further informed that Yokohama’s waste management system segregates recyclable materials through modern automated processes, making the city a global model of environmental sustainability despite its industrial profile.
Appreciating Japan’s high standards, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said that Yokohama’s environmental and urban development model will be implemented in Punjab. By adopting Japanese technology, we want to modernize sewage and waste, generate clean energy and ensure a sustainable future for our people.
In addition, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that Yokohama and Punjab have agreed to “city-to-city” cooperation in several areas including environmental protection and modern urban development.
According to a handout issued here on Monday, during their visit to Yokohama, the commercial, economic and cultural hub of Japan, the Chief Minister and her delegation received a detailed briefing on urban development at the Yokohama Town Hall.
They discussed enhancing the quality of road and building construction in Punjab to meet Japanese standards and explored avenues of cooperation between Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) and Yokohama.
The Chief Minister, who is currently on a five-day official visit to Japan, also reviewed opportunities for cooperation in running a high-speed train service between Lahore and Islamabad as well as upgrading Punjab’s railway infrastructure. He was further briefed on Japan’s latest chairlift and air cabin projects.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stressed that Punjab would benefit greatly from Japanese expertise in sustainable urban planning, pollution control and modern transport infrastructure.
